The January transfer window slammed shut, as it never closes quietly, and that surely signals a slower pace, less focus on PSR and squad cost ratios, right?
Well, no, and the Premier League’s shareholder meeting at London’s Nobu hotel this past week saw a decision made not to usher in SCR, the financial controls that were to replace PSR, with the reason being that many club owners felt they just couldn’t vote on proposals to financial control changes with the Manchester City legal case against the Premier League over associated party transactions unresolved.
That makes sense. But it kicks PSR over into another year and some clubs thought they would be shot of it. It means we’ll be talking about it a lot more into next season and potentially beyond. How joyous!
